Dealing with Fears

Like many 3 year olds Christian has a lot of fears, in general he deals with them pretty well. One of these fears is like one we all had, scared of the dark/going to sleep/monsters in your room. One night when I was putting Christian to bed, I tickled his tummy and sang him a lullaby like I always do and then instead of rolling over with his blanky he propped his pillow vertically against his head board and sat right up against it. I looked at him funny and said "Buddy don't you want to lay down?" and he said "No, if I do this they I can see them but they can't see me" uhhhhhh, okay? I let him stay that way and in about 15 minutes I went back to check on him and he was a sleep and slouched down, so I fixed his pillow and laid him down and he curled up with his blanky and kept sleeping. This happened for pretty consistently for about 2 1/2 weeks, then a couple nights he didn't do it and I thought he was over whatever fear he was battling, but we have resumed the sitting up straight to fall asleep routine once again. I think it's cute and endearing, I love walking by his room after I have said good night to him because when I peak in he either just waves and smiles at me or says "hi mom, I love you!" He is adorable.

My kids went through a Monster phase. I bought a bottle of Fabreeze and told them it was Monster Spray and if they sprayed it in the areas that monsters would appear, it would make them disappear. Worked like a charm!
